6.37.1. Installation of Grep

The current Grep package has many bugs, especially in the support of multibyte locales. RedHat fixed some of them with the following patch: 

patch -Np1 -i ../grep-2.5.1a-redhat_fixes-2.patch

In order for the tests added by this patch to pass, the permissions for the test file have to be changed: 

chmod +x tests/fmbtest.sh

Prepare Grep for compilation: 

./configure --prefix=/usr --bindir=/bin

Compile the package: 

make

To test the results, issue: make check.

Install the package: 

make install
